Boston Chronicle (first) is first published.
December 21, 1767
It is published and printed by John Fleming and John Mein from a shop near today’s 585 Washington Street. The first twice-weekly newspaper in New England, it initially reprints articles from British newspapers and comes to support the Loyalist position. Mein becomes so unpopular that he is once chased through the streets by a mob, and two men who look like him are beaten up in cases of mistaken identity. He flees to England and Fleming continues the paper until the newspaper’s last issue appears on June 25, 1770.
